After my visit to Cyprus I discovered it to be one of my favourite places in the world.
I decided to spend some time in Cyprus as a middle point on my way to Georgia and I regretted deeply not having spent an entire month there.
I've decided 'to set up camp' in Larnaca, the third largest city in the country, simply for a practical reason, the airport. Larnaca is a residential city, with not so many tourists, which is what I really enjoyed about it. A must see in Larnaca is the waterfront. You can enjoy wonderful walks anytime of the day next to beautiful palm trees while listening the sound of the sea and that wonderful scent of summer and the sea salt. However, the waterfront itself is a bit more touristy than the rest of the city.
When it comes to beaches here, because, let's be honest, that's why we're here, Larnaca beaches are rather basic. I can recommend the Mackenzie beach because of the lovely restaurants and cafes. You can enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a piece of cake in the Caffè Nero while sitting on the beach chairs staring at the horizon. Also, in the evening, places such as Lush beach bar (pictures below) and Re.Buke Lounge offer wonderful food paired up with the amazing view and you can enjoy watching planes land which was one of my favourite things to do while in Larnaca.
Obviously, a must try dish in Cyprus is of course Souvlaki, a very tasty meat skewer. However, in the case you get bored of the traditional food, Re.Buke offers wonderful sushi and you can enjoy really great shisa there. Generally, atmosphere in this part of the town is pretty great and it's mostly locals who hang around here which is what I really liked.

In Cyprus I definitely recommend you renting a car and having a little drive around in the hunt for amazing beaches and sites. The nicest beaches I've seen here are the Nissi Beach and Konnos Beach close to Ayia Napa. Now, I'll be honest, the city of Ayia Napa is really not my cup of tea as it's super touristy. However, these two beaches are breathtaking with the golden sand and turquoise water. It feels as if you're in heaven. Plus, you can engage in fun activities such as jet skiing or SUP, although with SUP I'd be careful as I, embarrassingly, drifted so far away off shore that I had to be picked up by the staff on a boat and brought back to the beach. So, don't go too crazy.
And of course, we should not forget the importance of mythology for this area, so a must see is the Aphrodite's Rock close to Pafos. Legend has it that this place is the birth place of Aphrodite as she emerged from the sea right here. Also, a beautiful site is the Adonis Baths Waterfalls where you can see two beautiful waterfalls and have a nice dip in freezing cold water, I say this with no irony, it's a pretty nice thing to do.
Amazing about Cyprus is that it is first of all a county of great history, wonderful nature and amazing food. Ticks all the boxes on my list. At the same time Cyprus is very simple, non-fussy place which is what I loved about it. I enjoyed some peace and quiet, amazing beaches and had a proper holiday.
